Bolvei vs Betting: What is the Difference?

Traditional betting is well-established in Kenya. Bolvei is a peer-to-peer prediction market. These platforms look similar but operate differently. One relies on a central house. The other relies on a community of traders. Use this comparison to understand your options.

The House Advantage vs Peer-to-Peer Trading

In the betting model, the company acts as the house. They set the odds for every event. They design these odds to ensure a profit. This profit is known as the "overround." You are playing against the company. When you win, the company pays you. When you lose, the company keeps your money. The house always protects its own interests.

Bolvei removes the house. It is a peer-to-peer platform. You trade directly against other Kenyans. Bolvei provides the technology and the escrow service. It does not take the other side of your trade. Prices come from supply and demand. You get the true market value for your opinion. You trade with people, not a corporation.

Fixed Odds vs Dynamic Market Prices

Traditional betting uses fixed odds. You place a wager at a specific price. This price stays the same for your ticket even if the situation changes. You wait for the event to end to see your result. Your money is locked until the final whistle or result.

Bolvei uses dynamic prices. These prices move like a stock market. If a key player gets injured, the price of "Yes" drops. If a candidate gains popularity, the price of "Yes" rises. You buy low and sell high. You do not wait for the event to finish. Sell your shares at any time to lock in a profit. This flexibility reduces your risk. You control your money throughout the process.

Restricted Options vs Global Information Markets

Most betting focuses only on sports. You wager on football, rugby, or basketball. The options are limited to athletic results. This restricts your ability to use your knowledge of other topics.

Bolvei covers everything. You trade on sports, but you also trade on:

The KES/USD exchange rate.
Fuel price changes.
Election results.
Weather patterns.
Technology trends.

Bolvei turns your daily knowledge into an asset. If you understand the economy, you profit. If you follow politics, you earn. You are not limited to 90 minutes of football. You trade on the world around you.
